Goal assignment #2, essay
My goal is a simple one : to obtain a basic comprehension of the Spanish language by next year. By basic I means to be able to participate on a conversation with another Spanish speaking person. Learning Spanish will help me feel closer to my culture as a young man of Spanish heritage, provide more employment opportunities, and enable me to become more mindful. Not knowing Spanish has had many implications in my life but none more than the distance its put between me and my culture.
Learning Spanish won't automatically make me feel more Spanish, but it will enable me to learn what it means to be Spanish. My comprehension regarding anything Spanish, is pretty garbled. The shame I feel because of my ignorance is staggering, simply because I feel like an alien to my own race. However, cultural references aside, not being bilingual has affected me on a more professional level.
It is common knowledge that those containing the skills to communicate in two languages can effecting put those skills to work in other areas of life. Perhaps one prominent area being employment. Those seeking jobs, omitting level of experience, have a higher chance of getting a job as to a person who only knows one language. Any establishment that's hiring seeks to serve as many people as they can. Knowledge of anther language allows the establishment in question to serve a wider audience, thus boosting its reputation and increasing profit. Ambitious thoughts aside, I often find myself in situations where I would need some knowledge of the Spanish language.
My neighborhood consists of dominantly Spanish speaking family's. Due to my lack of Spanish,I'm often oblivious to what's around me. In class, I heard my professors mention what it is to be mindful. I interpreted the detonation as being aware of what's around what's around you. The world is bigger than just me and English isn't the only spoken language. Learning Spanish will open more doors and give me access to new places.
My goal is significantly important to me because I've always wanted to visit Puerto Rico. Hopefully if I can learn som Spanish, I can visit my homeland with some knowledge of my culture and feel welcome. However, learning Spanish isn't based solely on my progression as a Spanish person, but as a person in general.

300 word goal assignment
One of my primary goals is to learn how to order my food in Spanish by the end of next year. I feel that this goal distinguishes itself from the rest of my goals simply because it represents a huge step in my quest to learn Spanish. I myself am Spanish, but I've procrastinated on learning my own language.
Being able to at least order my food in my native tongue, will give me the sense of accomplishment needed to finally live life outside of the language barrier.
